Our new dog!

Everything worked out, and we got our dog Onyx this morning! He's very enthusiastic, and since he's a labrador and still a puppy, he is a chewer. On the drive home from the Humane Society, he chewed right through the temporary leash they gave us. Then at home, he tore one of Josh's slippers to pieces. (That's okay - I was planning on knitting him new slippers anyway!) He tore a hole in our bedspread, tried to eat his new dog bed, tried to eat my sweater while I was wearing it, and tried to eat the jeans Josh is wearing. We took him on a long walk up to the Rose Garden, during which he was surprisingly well behaved, and as soon as we got home, he peed on the wall. Also, he has tried to hump both of us at least a dozen times. This is all during the three hours we've owned him. It's been a long day so far. I expect the next few weeks will be long as well, as we try to train him. I think if I take him on a run or a long walk every morning, that will take away a lot of the energy that he would otherwise use to chew things. I'll sacrifice my slippers if I have to, but if he goes for my nice boots, I will not be happy. He's a sweet boy, though, and very smart, and I'm glad he's ours!
